dbx 160 compressor/limiter is a renowned manufacturer of professional audio equipment, best known for its high-quality signal processors and dynamic range controllers. Founded in the 1970s, DBX has played a significant role in shaping the landscape of audio production and has become synonymous with dynamics processing.

Richard Segal Huredia, a collaborator engineer of Dre, confirms that Dre favored the DBX 160 for all his vocals. Eminem in an interview affirms to have seen him use the same routing and equipment for his single, “My Name Is” in the 1999.

In addition to the main tools used in his workflow, Dre was famous for using the SSL console for mixing. He used various series, primarily from the 4000 E & G series. Dre mastered the use of the compressor integrated into the SSL and particularly appreciated the Mix Bus compressor. In addition to managing EQ and dynamics with the SSL compressor, Dre knew how to manipulate audio through the console to achieve the desired sounds.
