In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to achieve a vocal effect by Jaycen Joshua’s called Air France.
Let’s get started.
Insert Effect
First, let’s talk about the insert effect. Joshua’s use the MicroShift but me try the alternative plugin from BOH Digital Labs, specifically the Provocative.
Here are the parameters you’ll need:
- Effect: Set to full wet
- Frequency Range: Focus on the 2500 Hz
- Detune: Almost to the maximum
- Delay: Set to halfway
Compressor Settings
Next, we’ll configure the compressor to eliminate any peaks:
- Attack: 0.50 milliseconds
- Release: 5.00 milliseconds
- Ratio: 4.01:1
EQ Adjustment
Finally, let’s adjust the EQ:
- Low-Mids Removal: Remove some of the low-mids using the EQ in mono mode. This helps to avoid muddiness and prevents adding an unwanted proximity effect to the vocal.
Additional Tips
Remember to give space to creativity and your personal taste; use these settings as a starting point and then have fun experimenting. This process can be replicated in any software, so don’t hesitate to try it out in your preferred DAW.
With these steps, you can achieve a polished and professional vocal sound similar to the one used by Jaycen Joshua. Feel free to share your experiences or ask any questions in the comments below.
Happy mixing!
