Puff Daddy: Video Surfaces of Rapper Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend Cassie Ventura
A video, exclusively released by CNN, dated March 5, 2016, shows the rapper grabbing the woman by the back of the neck, throwing her to the ground, kicking her multiple times, and dragging her by the hood of her sweatshirt while she is still on the floor. In November, the woman had filed a complaint against her ex-partner, accusing him of physical violence and repeated abuse.
The footage, dated March 5, 2016, reveals the rapper Puff Daddy (Sean “Diddy” Combs) shoving his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, to the ground and kicking her. The singer and actress filed a federal lawsuit in November against her former partner—whom she was in a relationship with from 2007 to 2018—alleging violence and repeated physical and other forms of abuse. The lawsuit was settled privately between her and Combs, who has consistently denied all accusations. Cassie Ventura’s attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, told CNN: “The video further confirms Mr. Combs’ disturbing and predatory behavior. Words cannot express the courage and strength Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring all of this to light.”
The Video
According to CNN, the footage appears to be surveillance video from the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, a hotel that is now closed. In the video, Cassie Ventura is seen leaving a room with a travel bag in hand and heading toward the elevators. Shortly after, Puff Daddy appears in the hallway, running in her direction. He catches up to her, grabs her by the neck, and throws her to the floor. He turns to kick her, picks up the suitcase from the ground, and again kicks Ventura, who is still lying on the floor. He then grabs her by the hood of her sweatshirt and drags her for a few seconds toward the room before walking away. Cassie Ventura slowly gets up and reaches for a phone mounted on the hallway wall. In another shot, reflecting in a mirror, Combs appears to push his then-girlfriend, before sitting down in a chair and throwing an object in her direction.
