🎛️ MidBoss – A Mid-Frequency Saturator That Hits the Sweet Spot
Hey Plugheads, Sheen here 👋
Today I want to talk about a brand new plugin that instantly caught my attention — MidBoss, a mid-frequency focused saturator and tone sweetener that feels like a hidden weapon for mixing and sound design.
I’ve always had a soft spot for saturation plugins that know their place. Some hit the low-end too hard, others over-brighten the top. But MidBoss does something interesting — it targets the mids, while still shaping the highs and lows depending on the selected saturation type.
And that’s where it really shines.
🔥 What MidBoss Does
At its core, MidBoss is designed to saturate and enhance the midrange, giving your mix that forward, warm presence we often chase with analog gear.
It comes with six different saturation types, each offering a unique color — from subtle warmth to heavy harmonic crunch. The “mid focus” means you can add punch and grit to vocals, guitars, or synths without muddying the lows or harshening the highs.
🧩 Key Features (and why I like them)
- Type Selector (x6) – six flavors of saturation for different tones and textures
- Drive – the heart of the plugin; it shapes and saturates the signal beautifully
- Mix – lets you blend the dry and wet signal for perfect parallel processing
- Output – ±15dB of clean gain, controlled with a screw-style knob (love this detail)
- I/O Bypass – quick and transparent bypass for A/B checking
And yes, the GUI is fully resizable — from 50% to 200%.
Just grab the bottom-right corner and adjust it however you like.
💡 Tip: If you want every new instance of MidBoss to open with your preferred size, resize it once, then save that state as a default preset in your DAW. Smart move from the developers — simple but thoughtful.
🎧 Why I’m Excited About It
The mids are where the magic happens — that’s where your mix breathes, where the vocals connect, and where the character of instruments lives.
MidBoss lets you add saturation exactly where it matters most, without destroying the overall balance.
On my first test, I ran it through a Rhodes loop, and it instantly gave me that creamy, tape-like glue — but with more clarity and bite. Pushing the Drive knob harder introduced harmonics that felt organic, never harsh.
I also love it on drum buses and bass synths when I want them to speak more in the mix without boosting EQ.

🪄 Final Thoughts
MidBoss isn’t trying to be another “do-it-all” saturator — it knows exactly what it’s doing, and it does it extremely well.
It’s simple, musical, and incredibly useful for shaping tone and energy in the midrange.
If you’re into harmonic coloration and subtle drive that can go from sweet to savage, this one’s worth checking out.
