Hey Plugheads,
Today I’m bringing you something seriously wild.
If you’re like me, you’re always hunting for that perfect 808—something with punch, warmth, and just enough grit to make your speakers cry mercy. Well… you might wanna sit down for this one.
Meet GR808 — The Bass Weapon You Didn’t Know You Needed
Clay and Kelsy (aka two mad geniuses) took their favorite pitched 808 sample and did something crazy: they ran it through the Voice of God by Little Labs. Yep, that VOG. The one engineers whisper about like it’s a secret weapon (because it kinda is).
translate : I leave you a video on how to recreate the VOG sound.
They fine-tuned the resonant frequency until the thing exploded with thick, saturated low end, but also—get this—brought out lush high harmonics and wild textures you don’t expect from your typical boom-boom 808.
This Ain’t Your Average Sub Bass
I loaded this plugin into my session thinking it’d be “just another 808.” What I got instead was something way more flexible:
- It fattens up kicks like a dream.
- It can replace your bassline entirely.
- And when you dial it into higher registers, it turns into these ethereal, almost ambient textures that sound like they were plucked straight from outer space.
Literally shook the walls of my studio. Not even exaggerating.
Reverb That’s Actually Good (Yes, Really)
You get three custom convolution reverbs inside:
- The 80s – grainy, nostalgic, wide.
- Cloud Grains – airy and dreamy.
- Spirits – dense and moody.
All of them add just the right vibe depending on whether you’re working on trap, chillhop, or some off-grid experimental thing. Plus, there’s a bouncy FX section with a ping-pong delay that’s pure sauce.
Press This Button. Trust Me.
There’s also a “Random [?]” button that randomizes all parameters — I’ve lost hours just clicking it and discovering sounds I’d never think to design manually.
It’s like a sonic roulette that always pays off.
Final Verdict
If you’re trying to level up your bass game, this plugin isn’t just a nice-to-have — it’s a must-have. Whether you’re looking to shake the club or add emotional, atmospheric weight to a film score, it’s all here.
Big love to Clay and Kelsy for making something this unique and giving the 808 a new life. You absolutely need to try it out.
See you in the low end, Plugheads.
