UJAM has introduced Usynth DRIVE, a streamlined free virtual synthesizer designed for house music production. Tailored for electronic music producers, Usynth DRIVE is described by UJAM as a “turbo boost for electronica” and is specifically crafted for use in house music. Like other plugins in the Usynth series, Usynth DRIVE utilizes a versatile synthesis engine, incorporating two layers per sound and integrating various synthesis algorithms such as subtractive, FM, wavetable, and multi-sample synthesis. It includes a multi-mode filter, a 12×12 modulation matrix, five-stage envelopes, and advanced modulation features. Despite the intricate synthesis engine beneath the surface, the user interface displays only a few controls. This design aims to offer users a selection of ready-to-use sounds without the need for extensive synth programming. Additionally, Usynth DRIVE provides customization controls, allowing each patch to be adjusted to suit a specific project. The interface is divided into three main sections: Sequencer, Synthesizer, and Finisher. Users can bypass, randomize, or manually tweak each section. The Sequencer section assists in sequencing the loaded sound by adjusting swing, note length, tempo, and similar parameters. The Synthesizer section is where users modify the timbre and internal modulation. The Finisher module includes built-in effects to enhance depth and movement to the loaded preset. The plugin also includes a Surprise feature, enabling the creation of a fully randomized preset. The surprise can be “small” or “big,” determining the extent to which the randomized preset deviates from the current setting.
